Garden Goals:

To teach students as well as parents that gardening is a lifelong skill that contributes to healthy living.

Students in the gardening class will grow food in the summer months that can be harvested during that time and in the fall for their own consumption at home.

Students will learn how to cook and experiment eating produce from the garden.

Students will learn the different techniques of preserving vegetables such as canning, blanching and freezing, fermentation, drying, root cellaring.

Food grown in the garden that will be ready in fall will supplement the school menu.

Community member volunteers could have a gardening plot of their own, growing and harvesting food to consume at their homes.

Students will learn different gardening techniques by practicing them hands-on. They will also learn from other gardeners through field trips to surrounding farms and gardens.

The project hopes to push the school district to get involved in the Farm to School program by buying fresh local food for better taste and nutrition, as well as supporting the local economy.
